Afterschool programs can enhance children’s academic achievement. Participants in afterschool programs:
– show increased interest and ability in reading
– develop new skills and interests
– show improved school attendance, increased engagement and interest in school
– turn in better quality homework and can spend more time on task
– show higher aspirations for the future, including intention to complete high school and go to college.
Afterschool programs support children’s social development and their relationships with adults and peers. Children who participate in afterschool programs behave better in school, have more developed social skills, and show more self-confidence as a result of the caring relationships they develop with staff and other students in the program.

Mr. Orris will be offering valuable test preparation for High School students as they prepare for upcoming S.A.T. and A.C.T. tests. Test preparation consists of practice tests, test taking skills and coaching, time management, test question preparation and tutoring. Format is group presentation, solving and answering questions, practice mini-tests and individual assistance. Goal is to prepare students for S.A.T. on November 5th and/or A.C.T. testing on October 22nd. Later tutoring sessions will be established to prepare for tests in 2017. Key to doing well is understanding the test and practicing. Value of the course exceeds what is offered at test preparation centers which could cost exceedingly more. Mr. Orris received a perfect score on his A.C.T. Sessions are two hours long. Absences will be made up with extended sessions. Typically, 14 sessions are needed for preparation. Additional sessions can be scheduled. S.A.T. Prep meets on Mondays and Wednesdays. A.C.T. Prep meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please see meetings times on the above calendar. Cost: $20 an hour. Minimum 2 students to run class.
