Judy was born and raised on a farm in Reading, Pennsylvania, the heart of the Pennsylvania Dutch culture. Her childhood revolved around animals and the environment. Many of her fondest memories were helping her father and grandfather in their veterinary medicine practice. Because of her exposure to nature and the environment, Judy pursued a Bachelor of Science degree from Hood College Frederick, Maryland. Before children, Judy worked in nutrition and life counseling through the office of Aging. She also worked for numerous years directly with trauma patients in a rehabilitation hospital. Once her children arrived, Judy changed her focus to family. During this time period, Judy volunteered in organizations that worked harmoniously with her family’s needs such as tutoring, PTSA, sports council board, Christian education committee chair, and so forth. In 1997, the Bright Clan, Judy, Steve, Justin, Ashley, Matthew and Kevin, left the rural environment of Pennsylvania and moved to Central Florida to enjoy the everlasting sunshine. After the move to Florida, Judy and her husband Steve developed and directed a business centered on the environment. Missing mentoring and coaching others, Judy pursued her two joys, science and helping others achieve their goals. In 2006, Judy joined the CFP family. She continued to expand her horizons through the Educators Professional Institute. Judy teachers a diversity of sciences. Judy is trained and certified through PLTW in the Biomedical Sciences. She also holds certifications in food safety: Serv Safe and HACCP. Judy maintains a strong interest in learning about the new food act called FSMA; this new law is the first initiated in almost 70 years. As one of the many responsibilities as science coordinator Judy organizes and runs CFP’s science fair. Judy is a board member for the Dr. Nelson Ying Orange County Science Exposition. She is an active part of the team for Florida’s SSEF. Her professional memberships include the National Environmental Health Association and the National Science Teacher’s Association. Judy enjoys sharing the excitement and application of the sciences while she is able to nurture and enlighten her students. After all, we are all scientists! Education is very important to Mrs. Bright.
