Central Florida Preparatory School

A private school in Orlando, Florida

Founded in 1990, CFP consistently ranks among the state of Florida’s best private schools, offering a robust academic program with small class sizes, a joyful and diverse community, and a commitment to strong character values in a family-like environment.

Learning at Central Florida Prep is an adventure. Our dynamic curriculum encourages children at each stage of their educational, emotional, and social development to discover their own innate talents and interests. Nothing a student does here is considered extracurricular: lessons learned in the STEM lab or English classroom are as vital as lessons learned on the playing field, in the art studio, or in the culinary kitchen.

Above all, we offer a nurturing learning environment that develops life-long learners who are engaged, knowledgeable, self-reflective, and self-directed. Schedule a private tour of our 5-acre campus to experience the difference for yourself.

The Montessori Method

Montessori is a philosophy of education developed by Italian doctor, Maria Montessori, in the early 1900’s. Montessori classrooms are mixed-aged classrooms containing students ages 3-6. Dr. Montessori believed that children experience different stages of readiness that create windows of opportunity for learning. She called these stages sensitive periods of learning. Each Montessori classroom is divided into five distinct areas. Those areas are: Practical Life, Sensorial, Math, Language, and Culture. The individuality of the child is highly prized in Montessori, and children all work at their own pace in each area.

Practical Life

Practical Life lessons are designed to develop independence, build concentration and coordination. Practical Life activities fall into four main categories: care of self, grace and courtesy, control of movement, and care of the environment.

Sensorial

Sensorial lessons teach children the subtle (and not so subtle) differences in size, color, shape, texture, sound, smell, and taste. These activities refine the use of the senses and serve as pre-reading and pre-math lessons that children build on.

Culture

Culture lessons allow children to explore their world. Children use specially designed Montessori materials to learn about land forms, continent names, animals, cultures, life cycles of plants and animals, weather, and the solar system.

Culture

As children work at their own individual pace, they learn to encode words and read sentences. They also graduate from simple three letter phonetic words to more complex phonograms, with the goal of being full readers by the time they enter Kindergarten.

Math

Math lessons reinforce the lessons of size introduced in the Sensorial lessons; they also introduce children to the pairing of a quantity with a numeral, which prepares them for the concepts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Small
Class Sizes

We know how important personalized attention is to student learning. At CFP, small class sizes ensure that your child receives individual, one-on-one attention in a well-managed classroom. Our spacious 600 sq.ft. classrooms maintain low student-to-teacher ratios and ensure plenty of flexible space to learn and engage.

We encourage active parent engagement in student learning, because we know it makes a difference. Our teachers pride themselves on the consistent and thoughtful communication they have with the parents in their classrooms. Our teachers communicate individually with each family both face-to-face, and virtually via email or LMS.
